In the spring of 1952 Adalbert Von Rotz and his wife Marie Louise, the owners of the land that is now Oak Manor, signed a declaration of restrictions for the homeowners in the subdivision which would be built in the next few years. So began Oak Manor which, at the time, was in a town called Manor. When you leave our neighborhood and head to Fairfax you see on your right the lovely old bridge and train stop that says Manor. We’re not sure why the town of Manor never took off, but it didn’t and we are now part of the county of Marin. Our addresses say Fairfax but we are unincorporated Marin.

Fast forward a few years and the Oak Manor Homes Association was officially begun in August of 1954. From the Articles of Incorporation, we are a non-profit organization whose purpose is:

“To develop a community designed for safe, healthful and organized living; To promote the common welfare of the community through group discussion and active cooperation of members of the association; To stimulate civic pride, property improvements and protection of all property covenants; To arrange social and recreational functions and activities for its members”

The Oak Manor Homes Association, now the Oak Manor Homeowners Association has been through a lot in the past 70 years but we are still here and are very excited about working on ways to keep our little neighborhood thriving.

We will scan and post all of the HOA documents here in the coming months so that you can read them for yourselves. Mr. and Mrs. Von Rotz wanted each new home to have a tree planted in front and you still see that today. The original assessments were $10.00 per year and any birds you had in your home had to be in a cage!
